About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Long Beach, Yume Japanese Restaurant offers an indulgent journey into authentic Japanese and sushi cuisine that captivates both the eyes and the palate. This vibrant eatery stands out with its extensive menu featuring standout dishes like the visually stunning Bento boxes, the intriguingly named Ex-Girlfriend Roll, and the savory Korean Bulgogi that melds flavors with a tender, smoky finish. For sushi lovers, the Baby Lobster Roll, Hungry Roll, and the exquisite Jumbo Scallop with Uni deliver layers of fresh, oceanic delight wrapped with precision.

Every bite at Yume is a sensory dance — from the crisp tempura exterior of their Shrimp Shumai to the sizzling, umami-rich Shitake Mushrooms that release fragrant earthiness with each mouthful. The sushi platters are a feast of color and texture, especially the Moriawase Sashimi 18-piece chef’s selection, which customers describe as "edible art" with fresh, buttery slices that melt effortlessly. The Banana Surprise dessert is a playful, sweet finale that leaves a lasting impression.

Stepping inside Yume transports you to a serene Japanese ambiance, highlighted by warm wooden accents and a delicate sparkling moon hanging on the wall, gently illuminated to create an intimate dining environment. Soft traditional music undulates in the background, while seating options range from cozy booths to an inviting sushi bar — perfect for everything from casual lunches to romantic date nights. Patrons like Marjie Van Der Laan praise the authentic atmosphere, noting how it genuinely feels like being in Japan.

Customer experiences echo the delight this restaurant inspires. Deng Anker raved about their “seriously epic feast,” enveloped by a vibrant spread that was as flavorful as it was beautifully presented. Nana Tsubota discovered her new favorite “sushi date spot,” drawn by Yume’s unique dishes and the cocktail menu’s creative twists, such as the Peach and Blueberry drinks, which delightfully imitated the comforting sweetness of a blueberry muffin. Eli Winston appreciates Yume as a perfect recurring destination, steadily sampling their diverse menu with each visit and enjoying the seamless balance of excellent food and fuss-free seating.

Yume's commitment to quality and authenticity shines through not only in its food but also in its attentive service and clean environment. Herb Archer notes that with numerous Japanese restaurants nearby, Yume holds its own by offering a comprehensive menu and a friendly, inviting space for families and friends alike.

Whether you're craving a perfectly executed spicy salmon roll, a delicate Yellowtail Collar served with Ponzu sauce, or an adventurous combination sushi platter, Yume Japanese Restaurant provides a deeply satisfying, multi-sensory dining adventure that keeps customers coming back for more. It’s more than just a meal — it’s a celebration of Japanese culinary artistry in Long Beach.

What We Ordered (A Seriously Epic Feast!) Our table was a full-on festival — everything looked and tasted amazing! Here’s what we devoured: • Sashimi Tasting Platter (9-Grid Style): A visual and flavorful highlight — fresh, buttery, and beautifully arranged like edible art. • Tempura Shrimp Sushi Rolls: Crispy outside, creamy inside, and rolled to perfection. • Crispy Crab Claws with Daikon Salad: This combo was genius — the crunchy crab paired with refreshing daikon shreds was a match made in heaven. • Hot Stone Spicy Stir-Fried Chicken: Served bubbling hot in a stone bowl, spicy and addictive — perfect for chilly nights. • Tonkotsu Ramen: Rich, milky broth with tender pork — the kind of comfort that warms your soul. • Fruity Sparkling Sodas: Light, fizzy, and the ideal pairing to balance all the flavors. Every dish was spot-on. Beautifully presented, generously portioned, and full of flavor. We left completely full… and ridiculously satisfied! ⸻ Total Price: Around ¥1000 RMB (~$140 USD for 3 people) Honestly? So worth it. For the quality, atmosphere, and portion sizes, it felt like a great value. No wallet regret here! ⸻ After-Dinner Tip: Take a Stroll to the Queen Mary Don’t rush home just yet — extend the fairytale vibe with a stop by the Queen Mary, just a short drive from the restaurant! This legendary ocean liner is actually the sister ship of the Titanic and is now permanently docked at the Port of Long Beach. From a distance, it’s absolutely breathtaking — giant, grand, and glowing against the water. We walked along the pier, let the breeze wash over us, and soaked in the view. A perfect slow walk to digest the meal and end the night on a magical note. ⸻ Final Thoughts: 100/10 Perfect Date Night (or Solo Treat!) This dinner + photo shoot + seaside stroll combo was everything. If you’re ever in Long Beach — whether it’s for a special night out or just to treat yourself — Yume is a must-visit. The food will fill your belly, and the fairytale ambiance will fill your heart. Save this spot for your next romantic dinner, girls’ night out, or even a dreamy solo foodie adventure. Trust me — you’ll feel like you’re in a movie.

I think I have found my new fave Sushi Date Spot! All the dishes were unique, beautiful, fresh, and delicious. They had many different types of items it was really hard to choose from. For cocktail I got the Peach and Blueberry. Blueberry reminded me of a blueberry muffin. Bora Bora was a roll without rice. It has scallop in the middle and some places I usually get a hint of fishiness but I did not get that. Including this bora bora, french kiss, and mango salsa halibut ingredients were perfectly harmonized and so delicious. Mango salsa had a little kick to it and it really was perfrct with the halibut. Salmon collar was the best we had. All sides were cook to perfection. Agedashi had the delicate flavor of dashi which warms you up inside and out. We tried the Banana Surprise, and boy we were surprised. It was not too sweet and I just gobbled it up. I am not even desserts person too. Definitely this is one of my new favorite Sushi Spot. If you want to go somewhere lavish spot definitely try here.

authentic ambiance to Japan! the food is delicious and it is a well priced restaurant. have dined here 2 times so far and for 2 adults the salmon collar and the 3 item Bento box are perfect! a sparkling moon hangs on the wall with lots of wood around... feels like being in Japan! gentle music plays with a sushi bar and booth seating and the game on for anyone who wants to watch.

What's not to love. My boyfriend and I have started coming here regularly a few times a month and we love it. Slowly working our way down every item on the menu. Perfect date spot, lunch we haven't had to wait to be seated. :)

Good spot. With tons of japanese restaurants in the area, it can make it hard to stand out. With lots of options, good tasting sushi, cleaniness and decent service, this was a good choice for family time, or to just hang out with friends.

Wow the salmon sushi special was fire. Everything sushi was so good. Food came out a little too staggered but came in during lunch so it couldn’t been due to how many people were working.

The food is absolutely delicious. The place has an adorable atmosphere. Unfortunately, my complaint is customer service. * I was ignored when I arrived at the restaurant. (I watched her greet other customers as they came in). * we asked the server about the special buy one get one half off. The young lady opened the menu to the pages that qualified. * she then charged us full price. she said it was only Monday through Thursday but if you see the picture with the sign nowhere, does it state it’s Monday through Thursday. In addition the server did not tell us when we asked her about the special before ordering.
